On September 21, the Chicago Builders Association’s Construction Leadership Council (CLC) hosted a jobsite tour at the DePaul School of Music in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. The project is being managed by member company Bulley & Andrews, and several member subcontractors are contributing as well.

The space will include several music halls, ranging in size and style from a 76-seat jazz hall to a 505-seat concert hall. Construction of the center, which will include an underground parking garage, is expected to be completed in spring 2018.

Because of the nature of the space, the acoustics are of primary importance. Attendees saw the detail first-hand, from the sound-proof windows to the structurally separate practice rooms. Though the practice rooms are fit snuggly together, they are in no way connected, so students will be able to pound away on the piano or drum set without disrupting their peers.

The Chicago CLC has been up and running for two years, and is continuing to grow. Elaine Schaudt, project manager at Bulley & Andrews, remarked, “I jump at the chance to attend CLC events, especially jobsite walk-throughs because they take me out of my day-to-day routine and open my mind to innovative new projects. It’s always interesting to hear questions from attendees with different background and experience; it makes you think about details you never even imagined were coordinated. It’s so much more than reading about projects and being in tune with the construction industry—it’s the feeling of being connected to the Chicago community, which is something to be very proud of.”

The tour was followed by a networking reception at Broken English, a Mexican restaurant down the street from the jobsite. Piñatas hung from the ceiling, guacamole, tacos and churros were plentiful, and attendees stayed well after the event officially ended to catch up with colleagues and expand their professional relationships.
